Oversensitive Neighbor Seeks Help! Where should a white noise machine be placed?
My upstairs neighbor and I are in a dispute over noise (I think he's too loud and he thinks I'm ridiculous). Where should a white noise machine be placed? In his unit or in mine?
Yours. If it's in his, it won't reduce the noise in your space as effectively.

Can white noise (noise machine) cause hearing damage?
I run the sleep machine day and night; I like the white noise. Now, someone tells me it could cause hear loss. Any info?
I would not worry about it. The sound going in your ear should not be loud enough to cause any damage. OSHA standards are that an individual can listen to an 85 dB sound for 8 hours straight with no damage to ear. A 90 dB sound for 4 hours straight a 95 dB sound for 2 hours etc. Some examples of how loud things are. Average conversational speech is about 55 dB. A dog barking is about 70 dB. A piano playing is about 80 dB. A helicopter is about 95 dB. So you see this white noise is probably not so loud that it will cause hearing loss unless you have it turned up REALLY LOUD!
