What is a good Christmas gift for my Mom and Dad?

I'm in college now if money is not as flexible as in the past be. I want my parents to buy Christmas gifts that will really like, however, be subject to angry against me if I spent a fortune on a gadget gift Brookstone for instance, because they want me to spend my money only when required to follow the regular college expenses. Therefore, I buy my parents for Christmas gifts that have a more sentimental value than something that is striking. you should definitely take the first because it's the prettiest! and i love no 3 and 5 and i really can't choose 1 between the two, so i think it depends on your body shape (mine would suit no 5 better, but i don't know about you) so good luck! it's really hard to choose

What is a good digital single lens reflex camera for a beginner? I don't plan to go professional or anything. I took a university class in photography that had me dealing with my dad's old film SLR and really loved it and got the hang of it..

Retro-crase is completely stupid. Obviously they've never been camera shopping.

You can get an Olympus E-520 with 2 different lenses for under $600. It's an excellent beginner's camera and it comes with a very impressive lens range for the price. The Olympus Evolt cameras are a little noiser than competitors but you can't beat the features for the price and the Zuiko lenses are very nice.

You can get a Rebel XSi for under $600 (only 1 lens). It's the older Rebel model but it's also great for beginners. The noise is excellent, even at ISO 1600 it beats out a lot of other similarly priced cameras.

I don't know much about Nikon but I saw a D-40 at Walmart for under $450 (1 lens) . It's not as impressive as the previous two I mentioned but Nikon is a top-notch brand.

Remember: Refurbished means it has to work exactly like new. You can save a lot of money by buying a refurbished camera and it will be every bit as good as a new one out of the box. Refurbished does not mean used or old; it just means it was returned for one reason or another and has been brought up to proper specs to be sold again.

I am looking to buy a digital SLR but I have no idea how to pick one.
I would like it to be somewhat smaller but still have the adjustable lens, and to be around $600. Any suggestions for easy-to-use cameras or tips on how to select one?

Anyone who wants to own one of these cameras for the first time really should do some serious reading first to know at least a bit of what you are getting into. These are wonderful devices, I know I own one and will recommend it to you, but to be effective with this type of camera there's a lot to learn.

This, I find, is an excellent camera that gives me the results I want. I'm not much on specs because I happen to believe they're mostly manufacturer fodder anyway. I look for results and this camera gives me what I want.

As I say, there's a learning curve. This not a point and shoot. You can use it that way but if you do you're waisting your money because there's so much more available here.
