Laser Tripwire circuit

How do I create a laser tripwire that can send a wireless signal in my room?

I want to create a place for you at my door. My room away from the door so I can not hear when someone comes home. I want it so when someone stands in front of the laser, a signal will be sent in my room and there will be a sound or light or something. Does anyone know of a tutorial that will show you how to do this? If not, no one knows where I can read books on electronics / circuits so that I can do this?
