My all time favorite four Tom Waits songs are (Lookin For) The Heart of Saturday Night, Emotional Weather Report, Tom Traubert's Blues, and The Piano Has Been Drinking (Not Me), because they were the songs I first heard by him (believe it or not, they got FM airplay in the 70s)

Since then I've fallen in love with all of Tom's work. You can't go wrong with any album.

The Heart of Saturday Night, and Nighthawks at The Diner are both fantastic early albums, why don't you start there. His greatest hits LPs are excellent, too.
