It actually happened in Britain first in the County of Yorkshire, with the invention of the standard pin & then onto everything. Britain was the first industrialised nation in the World! Although the USA had already gained independence, trading with Britain & Europe by the 1900's was big business. Back then most ideas & breakthroughs came from my side of the pond & especially my home Country England/Britain. Never far behind in America.... Ford invented the production line of cars, of which the idea spiralled later into many products. So i would say that in America it wasn't only the standardisation of parts, but also because of new production line standards & operation. Although I have no personal intentions on getting any of those products, I just want to see where they go. Personally, I look forward to a new Win7 computer, perhaps a notebook, or by then Netbook.
