How do I put the blade back in on my Leatherman Penknife?

I have a new penknife and was checking the Gagets I had on it and flicked out a knife blade. It seems to have locked and no matter what I do, I can't unlock it to put it back again. It is a very sharp knife and I don't want to use too much force, else I might get badly injured. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Open the blade next to it halfway. This should disengage the lock.

Do you know of any accomodations that can be used for blind horsemen – both riding and getting around the barn

I have a friend that lost his sight suddenly in a surgery. It has been over a year, and he wants to be as involved in the horses as he can, but sometimes things get complicated. I am hoping to hear about Gagets or tricks that other riders have used or seen that have helped them get around this problem. He has a great attitude and does some pretty amazing stuff already - we just want to make things easier.
This man is a lifelong horseman, and has always run his own breeding farm. He has braille tags on his horses, and does his own feeding, watering, grooming and basic care. He gets around the barns by following ropes and just making sure everyone puts things back where they go. We are just looking for ways to help make things easier for him. I am not sure how the guide pony works- seems like it would complicate things in our situation. He is already set up to get a dog in August.
He is well aware of the dangers involved, but this is HIS operation, I just manage the things he can't do. This fall we plan to get him riding again, and we are looking for tricks to help him find his way in the arena when he is working with a horse, to know where the gate is, and when the corners are coming up and that sort of thing. I won't always be right at the arena, so something voice controlled by him would be nice. Come on genious horsemen - invent something new!

I don't know if it was on Animal Planet or Miracle Pets, but there was a show about a girl (10ish) who was blind and was barrel racing. They had a great old push button horse for her to ride.

What about some chirpers? Like at the crosswalks. You could set some up at intervals around the arena so he would know how close he was coming to a fence. Set the volume so that you hear it when you are 20' away or something. Tie them in on a power switch like lights so you can just turn them on or off when he rides.

To help with corners, round out your corners, make your arena an oval instead of square. Lots of arenas do this anyway, especially in the cutting/cattle world. And when he starts riding again, I'd start him out in the round pen. I have worked with my horses riding in the round pen closing my eyes to try to "feel" them better. That way you don't have to worry about steering, just learning to ride.

I know you know, but be sure you have a horse that is going to go steady and straight. When you can't see what is happening and your horse decides to duck one way for some reason, it's unsettling, litterally.

I'll probably keep adding to this today as I think of things. On the chirper Idea. I'd get 2 different sounding ones, 1 for the sides of the arena, and a different for the ends of the arena. Then as he's riding along the side, he knows the different sound that he is approaching the end. And visa versa.

I'm sure you've already thought about it, but in case: Be sure all of your surfaces are flat, cement, or good hardpacked gravel. No deep sand, chunky grass etc. where he may be walking. Easy to trip.

A good exercise for yourself, get on a horse you trust in the round pen, and ride with your eyes closed. It is a whole different sensation and feeling. It truly is scary. We don't realize how much we use our sight when riding.

I don't know what type of riding you do there, but if you don't have your own, possibly go to a trainer for cattle lessons. A good trusty cow horse, not a good cutting horse, moves too quick. But an old rope horse, or team penning, working cow horse. If you get a practice cow in the arena, the horse will follow the cow, without any guidance from the rider. You don't want some wild Hawiian steer, something slow and quite.

I don't know, just thoughts I'm throwing out there.
