Digital Voice Recorders, they work better than tape, and some from RCA and SONY, have Computer Up link abilities.
A Geographic Compass work well to pinpoint natural magnetic fields.
Digital Camcorders I found work well if they are small, and lightweight. Easier to carry over the hours put in during a search.
A Digital Camera, no film developing needed, and are up loadable to your computer.
2 way radios, for use when using teams.
A Motorola with an 18 mile Range is a good choice. It has a strong signal.
A detailed map and history search of the structure being researched. This may help diagnose natural settling from a deranged ghost smacking on the walls.
Note pads and a basic cassette recorder for note taking.
Stationary Cameras for room and area Surveillance.
And a few basics, plan the event as you would a days outing.
Food, Drinks, First aid, other Necessities.
A planned time frame for the research. Data analyzing, and verification.
Caffine/Coffee or other. if research is done at night.
The list can go on and on, there doesn't have to be a lot of expence put into this hobby, just a lot of Common Sence.

I already have a giottos rocket blower, memory cards, flashgun, flash gels. I'm looking for gadgets such as the expodisc and other useful products

A wireless remote is nice too.

if you get a bag type tripod get the large it is the best fit for the camera. I like my suction cup mount for mine a bit pricey and unneeded.

I recommend a sight called Carbonite also to be a backup for your computer and files. More so than a dozen mem-cards, and a good photo editing package. Learn HDR.
